Negron Named Commander of Florida Wing

Lt Col Luis E. Negron has been named Florida Wing Commander, Civil Air Patrol (CAP). He has served in diverse leadership roles in CAP for over 20 years after a highly successful military career and current career with Walt Disney World Resort, Florida.

Col Andrea Van Buren, commander, Southeast Region, Civil Air Patrol, announced the appointment, saying, “Lt Col Negron has served as an outstanding leader during his tenure with Civil Air Patrol. His brings over 29 years of experience in homeland security, military and law enforcement functions, and strategic planning. He has a focus on team management and project planning, thriving in fast-paced environments with superb critical thinking skills. He is a great addition to the Southeast Region leadership team.”

Negron is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Among his many positions, he served as operations duty officer for U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami, one of the busiest USCG stations in the nation. He was responsible for dispatching aircraft during rapidly changing priorities in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment including coordination with federal, state, and local agencies. He also served as the Command Center Manager for U.S. Coast Guard Sector Miami, with duties that included the center’s monitoring of radio telecommunications and field operations. As Command Center Manager of Seventh Coast Guard District, Miami, he managed the busiest command center in the United States, encompassing 1.8 million square nautical miles. During his time there, he managed more than 13,000 search and rescue and law enforcement missions. He was responsible for timely coordination of available Department of Homeland Security resources and credited with saving 6,471 lives and seizing more than 37,000 kilograms of illegal drugs.

After his military career, Negron joined the Walt Disney World Resort team, currently working as a security specialist. He oversees operations throughout Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts to ensure that security policies, regulations, rules, and norms are followed by guests and cast members. In this role, he not only trains stakeholders and guests regarding the mission, vision, and strategies of the organization, but also works with law enforcement partners and individuals around the world in safety and security issues.

Lt Col Negron has been a source of inspiration and leadership both to senior and cadet members. During the pandemic, he led a team of wing staff members and group commanders in the implementation of COVID-19 remobilization throughout Florida Wing. He collaborated with National Headquarters and monitored the status of the pandemic in Florida daily to keep FLWG membership and NHQ informed.

Lt Col Negron has served as Puerto Rico Wing (PRWG) group commander, Southeast Region emergency services director, PRWG emergency services director, PRWG chief of staff, PRWG vice commander, Florida Wing Group Commander-Group 7, and Florida Wing remobilization team leader.

Lt Col Negron holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice/homeland security. He is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Senior Leadership Course and the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy. Negron is highly proficient in command and control, human resources, team building, strategic planning, and radio communications. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
